This writer was listening to a former EU commissioner speak in recent days and it wasn’t Germany’s rapidly deteriorating growth which bothered him. He readily acknowledged structural reform issues but his big worry was nationalism wrapped in populist politics…

Here we go… the UK awaits the results of a tectonic level vote from its northern subjects. The expected turnout is expected to be above 90% and the betting expects a “NO” vote. Both could be wrong.

My, my, my…..Queen Elizabeth’s United Kingdom is on tenterhooks as to whether 5 million Scots might choose to go it alone after 307 years. This writer’s sense is that it won’t but the devolution damage is done.

The Time Warner/Fox speculation has turbo charged M&A tallies for 2014 and it’s all looking very 2006-2007. Note, however, that the influence of LBO activity is vastly reduced from 25% in 2006 vs 6% current run rate….
